One day in Managua

After the night was a bit short because of the jetlag, we were excited as 6 o’clock the sun rose and we were able to start in the day. The breakfast in our hotel was the typical dish  served in Nicaragua in the morning, noon and evening – Gallo Pinto. It is rice and beans, which is the national dish in Nicaragua and Costa Riga. In addition there was scrambled eggs, fried bananas, and a fruit plate, all very tasty. After breakfast we speak to Manfred, the owner of the hotel. He gave us a lot of tips to Nicaragua and answered all our questions. He confirmed that there is not much to do in Managua and you can visit all points of interest in one day. At noon he drove us to the volcano Mount Loma de Tiscapa, located in the city center. From here you have a good view over the entire city. The monument of General Augusto C. Sandino is located on the top. Starting at the monument we walked to Lago Xolotlan. The lake of Managua is the northern border of the city. On the way we visited the 1972 from earthquake destroyed cathedral, Ruben Dario Monument and the National Museum.
Situated on Lake Xolotlan the Puerto Salvador Allende park provides some restaurants for tourists and wealthy nicas. You have to pay 5 Cordoba entrance to park – clever business model 😉.
The restaurant Summer was recommended for its fish dishes and Andrea did not want to miss it. The prices in the restaurant were a bit high for our budget, but the food was up to its reputation and the portions were quite large (which of course pleased Andreas). Well strengthened we got some water in a shopping mall before we took a taxi back to the hotel. The rest of the afternoon we spent with coffee and books on the terrace at the hotel.
